Our name

Bell & Brooke

A reading life, thoughtfully curated.

Some recommendations stay with you.

A friend passes you a book over dinner. A bookseller listens for a moment, then reaches for something you would never have chosen. Years later, you remember the book, and the person who understood you well enough to suggest it.

Bell & Brooke begins with that kind of attention.

We believe that choosing a book is a personal matter. The same novel can be exactly right one year and entirely wrong the next. What you are curious about, what you have lived through, and what you need a little distance from all shape the reader you are today.

So we begin with a conversation.

Tell us about a character you still think about. A book you abandoned. A subject that has quietly begun to interest you. Perhaps you want beautiful sentences. Perhaps you want to miss your train stop.

There is room for both.

Our name carries two quiet literary acknowledgements. Bell recalls Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, the names under which the Brontë sisters published. Brooke offers a nod to Dorothea Brooke of Middlemarch, with her searching intelligence and desire for a larger life.

Together, they express something of our purpose: an openness to distinctive voices, and an interest in the lives books might help us imagine.

Bell & Brooke brings the attentiveness of a private literary concierge to an ongoing conversation, made possible by AI. As you share what delighted you, disappointed you or caught you by surprise, your recommendations become more personal.

Each introduction comes with a reason. Why this book. Why it might suit you now. What may ask a little patience, and what might reward it.

Occasionally, we will suggest something beyond your usual shelves. A discerning guide should know when to take a small, well-judged liberty.

The fox in our emblem represents that curiosity: alert to the less obvious path, inclined to look a little further. You will find it quietly placed, like a printer’s mark.

Our ambition is to earn a place in your reading life. To become the name you return to when you have finished something extraordinary, when your familiar choices have lost their appeal, or when you simply feel like asking:

What have you found for me?

Bell & Brooke

Good books. A personal introduction.
